IN AN EXPERIMENT, THE PERCENTAGE ERROR OCCURRED IN THE MEASUREMENT OF A PHYSICAL QUANTITIES ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’ & ‘D’ ARE 1%, 2%, 3% & 4 % RESPECTIVELY THEN THE MAXIMUM PERCENTAGE OF ERROR IN THE MEASUREMENT OF ‘X’,

 WHERE,

\[X= \frac{A^{2}B^{\frac{1}{2}}}{C^{\frac{1}{3}D^{3}}}\]

UNIT OF THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY IS [NEET 2019]

a. J m k-1

b. J m-1 k-1

c. W m k-1

d. W m-1 k-1

Solution :

As,

[ % error in X ] = [2 * % error in A]+ [1/2 *% error in B]+ [1/3 *% error in C]+[3 * % error in D]

[ % error in X ] = [2 * 1 % ] + [1/2 * 2% ]+ [1/3 * 3 % ] + [3 * 4 % ]

[ % error in X ] = [ 2 % ] + [ 1% ]+ [ 1% ] + [ 12 % ]

Therefore % error in ‘X’ is

[ % error in X ] = 16%

i.e. option ‘B’ is correct

In a potentiometer circuit, a cell of EMF 1.5 V gives a balance point at 36 cm length of wire. If another cell of EMF 2.5 V replaces the first cell, then at what length of the wire, does the balance point occur?
